Show You School Sprit in Style

This upcoming weekend is Homecoming on the campus of Ohio Northern University. It’s a time when alumni come home and current students show their school spirit. It’s a great time to show everything you have, or have not accomplished. One-way people show off their success, or hide their failures, are through their attire.

We all do it, we stand in front of our closet trying to find an outfit that says look at me, look at what I have accomplished. But you still want to be like “oh I just threw this on.” But you know, dressing for homecoming is a difficult task. The weather is unpredictable, you are dressing for a tailgate, football game, class reunion receptions and evening concerts. Where does one start? Well, that is where I come in.

A place to start is always to get onto your phone, or computer, and look at the weather. If, like this weekend, it’s supposed to be in the upper 80s, don’t wear jeans! You know that by the end of the day, or even just during the football game, you will hate yourself because of the sweat that is dripping off of you. Shorts are a definite plus or even the stylish jean skirt. Another helpful hint is to try to wear a pair of bottoms that are versatile. Remember you can bring a change of clothes; nobody will judge you for that. My go-to is wear shorts and pack a different shirt. That way if an accident occurs during lunch you will have a backup, rather than trying to find a store in the middle of the cornfields that will fit your style.

Shoes are another issue, but like clothes, you can always bring an extra pair. Tennis shoes or a cute pair of sandals or flats will work all day. This way you won't kill your feet walking around in uncomfortable shoes all day. Rather you can enjoy yourself while walking down memory lane.

Homecoming weekend is a great time. You get to see old friends and make new. You can relieve your past, good and bad, all while laughing or cringing at your memories. But remember to dress for the weather, and to always have a backup outfit. You never know when your peaceful weekend reuniting with old friends can turn into another wild night at college.

  1. I sported the always fashionable black Res Life polo for homecoming this year. I would have rather worn cute flats and a shirt like you wrote about, it sounds so much cuter!
